Biography: Among the women painters from Slavonia, born in the 19th century, along with Štefana Klaić, the most talented was Ana Jerković, thirty years her junior. Just as her husband, painter Petar Papp (whom she married on 1st November 1919), she did not stay at the Zagreb Art school until graduation, but, after initial lessons with Csikos and Becić, she continued her studies in Vienna and Paris. She and her husband Petar were an example of a faithful art couple, and their life courses had two parallel lines, sharing the good and bad. After their educational travels through European cities they returned home and worked as art teachers in Ilok, Karlovac and in Zagreb. They published caricatures in "Koprive", with Ana being more engaged in supplements and illustrations for children. They travelled extensively in France (1930), Spain (1935), Italy (1937), Ukraine (after 1945). Petar died two years before her. They are both buried in the Zagreb cemetery of Mirogoj. |
